Ultrasound
Ultrasonography is a diagnostic imaging technique that allows our veterinarians to look at organs of the abdomen such as liver, kidney, spleen, bladder and adrenal glands, and obtain biopsy samples if needed.
Ultrasound is a painless, non invasive tool allowing visualization of these body organs not otherwise possible. High frequency sound waves aimed at certain areas, return images of the internal organs. These images are in 3D and real time, allowing our veterinarians to see how the organs are moving and how blood is flowing through the vessels during the procedure. Echocardiology is performed to evaluate the heart and blood vessels for any abnormalities.
Most commonly, we are able to perform regular ultrasound procedures without an anesthetic. If biopsies are required, sedation or general anesthesia may be indicated.
